Cafés and restaurants in the Greater Malé area are closed for dine-in services as the capital enters a partial lockdown over a record surge in Covid-19 cases.
The ban is part of tighter restrictions imposed by the Health Protection Agency with effect on Wednesday, including a 4pm to 4am curfew and closure of offices and mosques. The new measures will be in place for a week.
But cafés and restaurants are allowed to stay open for takeaways and make deliveries until midnight. After the first lockdown in mid-April 2020, food outlets in Malé reopened in July with physical distancing and access to hand washing or sanitising facilities.
