A Feast of Ice and Fire

Category: Cook Books

A Feast of Ice and Fire: The Official Game of Thrones Companion Cookbook is a passion project from super-fans and amateur cooks Chelsea Monroe-Cassel and Sariann Lehrer.

The book is endorsed by George R. R. Martin himself and even includes a foreword written by him.

From delicacies served at the dining halls of King’s Landing to warm comfort food had by the Starks in the North to exotic fare from the lands east of Westeros, A Feast of Ice and Fire replicates cuisines from all Seven Kingdoms of the bestselling saga and HBO hit.

The recipes are written for modern kitchens, but adventurous cooks may use the book to attempt some authentic medieval cooking methods as well. And also, since it is not going to be easy for modern day home cooks to find dragon eggs, live doves, swans, camels and other such ingredients, the authors have made some helpful suggestions regarding suitable substitutes.

A Feast of Ice and Fire contains more than a hundred recipes and these are divided by region. From The Wall are dishes such as Rack of Lamb and Herbs, Mutton in Onion-Ale Broth, and Pease Porridge. Listed from the North are meals such as Honeyed Chicken, Aurochs with Roasted Leeks and Baked Apples. Southern dishes include Cream Swans, Stewed Rabbit and Sister’s Stew, and from King’s Landing are Lemon Cakes, Quails Drowned in Butter and Almond Crusted Trout. Mysterious meals from across the Narrow Sea include Stuffed Grape Leaves and Honey Spiced Locusts.

The book also has instructions on how to dine and entertain in the style of the Seven Kingdoms. So, while we wait to learn about the fate of the Iron Throne, why not we welcome some winter into our kitchens.
